The University Baptist Church Manila was established under unique circumstances rather than traditional church-planting methods, making its origin both providential and circumstantial. Its roots trace back to 1962 when Rev. William Wakefield and his team from the U.S. founded the Baptist Student Union (BSU) under the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. The BSU aimed to win Filipino students to Christ and guide them toward nearby churches. By 1964, students who had come to Christ through BSU sought a church, and by 1966, their growing numbers led to Sunday morning Bible studies evolving into worship services known as "The Church at BSU." This development culminated in the official registration of the University Baptist Church in Manila at the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission in 1973. In 1980, BSU was incorporated as a ministry of UBC, leading to the official operation of the Student Center. In 1999, BSU was renamed the Youth Life Student Center (YLSC) to serve as the Youth Ministry of UBC, and since 2007, YLSC has continued to function as the Mission Arm of the church.
